My wife and I love going to the beach and the beaches of southern Thailand are a huge attraction. Spending the day under a colorful umbrella and reclining in a comfortable beach chair will melt away the stress from anyone. Of course, these moments of self-indulgence are not complete without your favorite cool beverage and an exciting super spy novel with the fate of the world in his hands!
I am reminded of the words to a song written about 20 years ago:
“The oceans best awaits you – just beyond the reef / The deeper waters have much more
To swim against the waves, I know, takes so much work, / That’s why you’re standing on the shore!
(Oh listen) Deeper is calling you deeper!”
I have been beyond the reef. I have seen the depths of the oceans of the world and believe me – there is beauty that cannot be described here! Standing on the shore will never get you a vision of the oceans reefs and depths. The only way is to step away from the shore, launch yourself into the water and plunge into the deep. Only then will you see and experience the wonders that lay beneath.
Life has new adventures and possibilities – just like the ocean and you are standing on their shores. You may be content to walk in the sand and splash in the shallows along the shore, but you will never enjoy the rewards, fulfillment, and freedoms you desire until you make a commitment and plunge in over your head!!
Is fear and uncertainty holding you back? Perhaps you are saying, “It’s dangerous out there! I’m risking too much! It’s too hard, it’s too complicated.” Yes, these are factors to consider, but not for long. There are those who have gone before, established the “road map” for us to follow and are willing to guide us through the shallows into the deeper waters of success and fulfillment.
The second verse of the song says:
“The mountain peaks seem to be just out of reach / When viewed from deep within life’s rut
Your highest highs are eluding, just beyond your grasp / Temptation says, “Why don’t you quit?”
(Oh listen) Higher is calling you higher!”
Each of us have the opportunity to view the peaks, the successes, and the financial rewards of our hard work, if we commit to diligence and to the daily efforts it takes to make it possible.
But the peaks will never be reached until we step out onto the trail and “one-step-at-a-time” make our way to the mountain highs. There is a sure way, a safe way, a no risk way to live life and that’s to do nothing – to stand at the trails’ head and view the peak from a distance, or stand on the shore and gaze over the vastness of the ocean and never leap into its depths.
Not me! Like the chorus of the song says – I’m going to step out because I know there’s much more for me out there, as I launch myself into the oceans depths and throw my efforts into climbing the highest peaks.
There are still fantastic views to be seen, still exciting experiences to be achieved and beauty to be viewed. (Hey, that’s a catchy song with a great beat! Bring me another pina colada and crank up the volume!)
